An overview of the current strategy and what it specifies in supporting black and minority ethnic (BME) learning disabled people. There is evidence of issues which impact on individuals lives and services they receive: insufficient data and record keeping, lack of representation on partnership boards, for example. However, Valuing People Now has a specific stream to ensure appropriate support to BME people with learning disabilities: appointing a national lead on ethnicity, the work of the National Advisory Group on Learning Disability and Ethnicity, commissioning work on advocacy and revising the ?Framework for Action on Ethnicity. A number of challenges were acknowledged, but there is opportunity to change practice through existing policy agenda.
